PETERSBURG, Va. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 298 to finish sixth with a 54-hole score of 883 on the par 72, Country Club of Petersburg Golf Course. The host Saint Leo Lions won the 14-team field with a 14-under 850 score.
Coker College finished second at 861, followed by Goldey Beacom (Del.) with an 874 score, while Mount Olive finished fourth at 876 and Belmont Abbey (A) finished fifth at 879. The Blazers carded rounds of 294, 291, 298 for the tournament for the 883 score.
Catawba and Emmanuel (Ga.) finished tied for seventh at 886, while Virginia Union was ninth at 888, followed by Palm Beach Atlantic at 892. The Belmont Abbey "B" team finished 11
th at 912, followed by Wilmington (Del.) at 914. Chowan finished 13
th at 923 and Virginia State was 14
th at 952.
Saint Leo's Jake Nash took home medalist honors with an 11-under 205 on rounds of 67, 70 and 68, while Coker's Jonathan Hallinger finished second at 5-under 211, while Saint Leo's Enzo Barbaglia was third at 4-under 212. Belmont Abbey's Lee Carew was fourth at 3-under 213, while Saint Leo's Alex Heck finished fifth at 1-under 215. SLU had three players finish in the top five, while three more finished in the top 17.
For the Blazers, junior
Brandon Cho finished tied for with a 217 score on rounds of 71, 73 and 73 to lead the team. Sophomore
Ty Folsom finished tied for 18
th with a 218 score on rounds of 74, 73 and 71. Sophomore
Joshua Burki finished tied for 47
th with a 226 score on rounds of 74, 76 and 76. Freshman
Landon Bassford tied for 61
st with a 229 score on rounds of 76, 75 and 78, while junior
Chase Long also tied for 61
st with rounds of 75, 70 and 84. Junior
Parker Highsmith, who was playing as an individual, tied for 26
th with a 220 score on rounds of 73, 73 and 74.
VSU returns home to prepare for the Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Oct. 2-3.
