Baseball Moves Up Seven Spots in Newest NCBWA Top 25

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team moved up seven spots in the newest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 announced Wednesday as the Blazers check in at No. 17 this week.
 
VSU, who is 11-4 overall and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference play, went 3-1 last week, winning the first series at Delta State since 2017, taking two of three games from the Statesmen.  VSU also defeated Saint Leo on the road a week ago Tuesday, 7-2.  The Blazers then defeated Georgia Southwestern on the road on Feb. 28, for the 13th-straight midweek victory for VSU dating back to the 2021 season.  
 
North Greenville leads the NCBWA poll this week with a 13-1 record and 19 first place votes, while Tampa is second, followed by Angelo State, Southern Arkansas and Cal State San Bernardino rounds out the top five.  Tampa, who also is in the South Region with VSU, plays the Blazers in a home-and-home as VSU visits the Spartans on Mar. 14 and then the teams battle in Valdosta on Apr. 4.  Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo is eighth in the poll, while the Blazers are 17thand West Georgia is 25th among teams from the region, while Florida Southern is among others receiving votes.

The Blazers head to Shorter for a three-game series this weekend to close an eight-game road trip.  VSU and SU are set for a 12 p.m. first pitch on Friday, Mar. 3, followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
