Women’s Tennis Hosts Two Nationally Ranked Foes

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team return to the court this week for the first time since Feb. 7, hosting No. 2 Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. and then hosting No. 6 Lynn on Saturday, Mar. 4 at 10 a.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.

The Blazers are 0-1 on the year after a hard-fought 5-2 loss to Georgia College on Feb. 7.  GC won the doubles points in all three matches, while junior Olivia Pezo won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and freshman Kayla Greco won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-2. 
 
NSU enters with a 4-1 record and is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 1-ranked Keiser University in NAIA.  The Sharks have wins over No. 5 Flagler (5-2), No. 6 Lynn (4-3) and no. 16 Embry-Riddle 4-3).  Nationally speaking, Julie Razafindranaly is eighth in singles, while Natalie Espinal is 39th.  The Sharks also have the top-ranked doubles tandem in Fatima Bizhukova and Espinal.
 
NSU leads the all-time series with VSU 4-2 and won 6-1 in the previous meeting on Feb. 13, 2022.  VSU's last win came on Feb. 10, 2017 in Valdosta with a 5-4 victory.  NSU has won three-straight in the series.
 
Lynn enters the week with a 4-1 record and will face both West Florida and Auburn Montgomery in Valdosta this coming weekend along with the Blazers.  The Fighting Knight's lone loss is to Nova Southeastern this season, while they have a 4-3 win over Keiser. 
 
The Fighting Knights lead the all-time series with VSU 9-1 and have won nine-straight in the series.  VSU's lone win came on May 13, 2005, with a 5-3 victory in the postseason.  Lynn won the last meeting between the two teams 4-0 in Valdosta on Mar. 25, 2022. 
 
Nationally speaking, Greta Schieroni is 19th in singles for the Fighting Knights, while Kristin Younes is 28th.  In doubles, Schieroni and Younes are 17th
