Jocelyn Oballe were named Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week. This is the first Steel's Jewelry Athlete of the Week for both Botsford and Oballe this season.
Botsford had a season-high seven punts for 324 yards and an average of 46.3 per punt with a long of 52 for a season-high. He had one punt inside the 20 with one touchback and one over 50 yards. In the second quarter, Botsford's punt went 46 yards to the UWF 8. The Argos then fumbled on the first possession as VSU scored a defensive touchdown on the miscue. For his awesome performance, Botsford was tabbed Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
For the season, he has 30 punts for 1,234 yards and a 41.3 average with a long of 52 yards. He has nine punts inside the 20, two over 50 yards, nine fair catches and one touchback.
Oballe scored the equalizing goal in the 73rd minute in a 1-1 tie at West Georgia to end the regular season on Friday. Oballe's goal helped ensure VSU qualified for the GSC postseason and it was her third goal of the season and sixth of her career. She finished the match with three shots and one on target for the goal coming off the bench in 34 minutes.
Botsford and the Blazer football team (8-1, 5-1 GSC) hit the road for a Gulf South Conference meeting with West Alabama on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Oballe and the Valdosta State soccer team (8-5-4, 6-5-2 GSC) are set to compete in the GSC Championship Quarterfinal against Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
