Men’s Golf Finishes Tied for 12th at NSU Shark Invitational

DAVIE, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team finished the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational tied for 12th with St. Thomas (Fla.) with a 54-hole score of 895 (296-300-299) on the par 71, 6,731-yard Grande Oaks Golf Club Tuesday.  Florida Southern won the 16-team tournament with an 855 score, while Saint Leo finished second, one stroke behind at 856. 
 
Due to heavy rain in South Florida Monday, the second and third rounds were completed on Tuesday as VSU was tied for eighth following the first round.  Union University finished third in the tournament with an 866 score, followed by Lynn at 868 and Shorter was fifth at 870.  Palm Beach Atlantic finished sixth at 879, followed by Barry (880), Nova Southeastern (882), Rollins (884) and Tampa was tenth at 888.  Mississippi College finished just ahead of the Blazers at 890 for 11th, while Embry-Riddle was 14th at 909 after the Blazers and St. Thomas.  Spring Hill College finished 15th at a 917 score and Eckerd was 16th at 920. 
 
Individually, Saint Leo's Enzo Barbaglia earned medalist honors with a 7-under 206 on rounds of 72, 68 and 66.  Max Barlie of Florida Southern and Nathan Todd of Shorter tied for second at 2-under 211, while Florida Southern's Donte Groppuso and Saint Leo's Jake Nash tied for fourth at 1-under 212.  Union duo of JJ Zimmer and Gray Campbell, along with Lynns Federico Shin shot even par 213 to tie for sixth.
 
For the Blazers, junior Brando Cho paced the team as he tied for 24th with a 219 score on rounds of 72, 73 and 74.  Sophomore Ty Folsom tied for 49th with a 225 score (73-78-74), while junior Parker Highsmith tied with sophomore Joshua Burki for 59th at 228.  Highsmith fired rounds of 76, 73 and 79, while Burki carded scores of 77, 76 and 75.  Freshman Alex Nilehn finished tied for 66th in his collegiate debut with a 230 score on rounds of 75, 79 and 76. 
 
VSU finished with 165 pars to tie for sixth, while the team had 28 birdies.  Folsom tied for third in par 4 scoring a 2-under to lead the team.  Nilehn was a team-best 1-over in par 3 scoring and Cho was a team-best in par 5 scoring at 1-under.
 
The Blazers return home to prepare for the Hurricane Fall Invitational at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Georgia, hosted by Georgia Southwestern Oct. 16-17.
