Blazer Men’s Golf Finishes 12th at Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 299 to finish 12th at the Hurricane Invitational on the par 72, 7,024-yard Doublegate Country Club Course with a 54-hole score of 904.  The host Georgia Southwestern won the 15-team field with a final score of 867.  
 
Lee University finished second at 870, followed by North Georgia (872), who fired a final round 5-under 283 to move up to spots for a top three finish.  Lander finished fourth at 880, followed by West Florida at 881 to round out the top five.  UWF finished with an even par 288 Tuesday to move up three spots.  Shorter finished sixth (885), followed by Carson-Newman (886), while Lincoln Memorial and Tampa tied for eighth at 887.  Anderson (S.C.) rounded out the top ten with an 899 score, followed by South Carolina Beaufort, just four strokes in front of the Blazers (900).  Delta State finished 13th at 923, followed by West Georgia (927) and Georgia College rounded out the field with a 958 score.
 
Blazer freshman individual Alex Nilehn finished tied for fifth with a 1-over 217 score on rounds of 74, 69, 74, in just his second collegiate tournament.  Georgia Southwestern's Marco Trestenjak earned medalist honors with a final round 71 to finish 2-under at 214, just ahead of Shorter's Blake Henriques and Lander's Ludvig Eriksson who tied for second (215).  Georgia Southwestern's Erik Fogel finished fourth with a final round 71 to move up eight spots for an even par 216 for the tournament.  Nilehn and three other players tied for fifth.
 
For the VSU team score, Tuesday's scores were definitely improved from the second round 309 on Monday. Junior Brandon Cho carded a final round 71 to tie for 43rd for the tournament with a 226 score on rounds of 78, 77 and 71 to pace the team.  Sophomore Ty Folsom finished tied for 50th with a 228 score after carding rounds of 72, 83 and 73.  Junior Parker Highsmith tied for 54th with a 229 score after firing rounds of 74, 77 and 78, while junior Chase Long tied for 56th with a 230 score, while sophomore Gage Winkler finished tied for 65thwith a 234 score (79,78,77).  
 
VSU returns home to prepare for the Copperhead Championship Oct. 23-24 in Palm Harbor, Fla., at Copperhead at Innisbrook.
