Pettigrew and Wooldridge named Steel’s Jewelry Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga.- Valdosta State volleyball junior Christina Pettigrew and VSU soccer junior Molly Wooldridge were named Steel's Jewelry Athletes of the Week. This is the first Steel's Jewelry Athlete of the Week award for Wooldridge and is the second for Pettigrew this season.
 
Pettigrew had an excellent week for VSU, playing in two matches, seven sets total, accounting for 30.5 points for the Blazers. The Copperas Cove, Texas native scored 24 kills over the two-game stretch with only three attack errors, hitting an impressive .538 for the weekend while also collecting two service aces. Defensively, Pettigrew tallied seven total blocks with one solo rejection, along with five digs. Her best performance came against Christian Brothers on Oct. 6 when she had 13 kills and only one attack error, hitting .522 for the match. She also had two service aces and three blocks with one being a solo rejection.
 
Wooldridge had a busy weekend for the Blazers, scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 3-2 victory over Delta State on Oct. 6 while also being credited with an assist in the 2-1 loss to Mississippi College on Oct. 8. Wooldridge, coming off the bench in the contest with Delta State, scored her massive goal in the 63rd minute to tie the affair for the Blazers, 2-2. While being a starter against Mississippi College, Wooldridge set up a shot for senior Ana Moleka in the 12th minute of the match, kicking off scoring early for the Blazers.
 
Pettigrew and the Blazer volleyball team (13-6, 5-2 GSC) return home to the Complex this weekend for conference matchups against Mississippi College and West Alabama on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, Wooldridge and the VSU soccer team (6-3-3, 4-3-1 GSC) hit the road to face Lee Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on Shorter on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. For more information on all things Blazer athletics, visit vstateblazers.com.
