However, the Blazers were able to hang in the game thanks to their solid scoring ability going 20 of 30 from the field behind sophomore Boser's 15 first half points. UWA held a 49-48 lead at the break.
Both teams came out of the half locked in a stalemate before a pair of treys from Gordon and Hamilton gave the Blazers a little breathing room for a 60-55 score with 15:38 left in the half. Another significant moment came around 13:36 left in the half as a "hoop and harm" from Fofana gave Valdosta State a 68-62 lead.
The Blazers would build off of these momentous plays stretching the lead to 15 with 8:28 to go in the game after a steal from Fofana led to an open trey from Hamilton as the Blazers led 83-68. UWA cut the deficit to seven twice late in the game, but could get no closer as VSU made its free throws down the stretch for the 96-84 victory.
VSU shot 58.3 percent from the field on 35 of 60, while it was 9 of 23 from distance and 17 of 20 from the line, including 15 of 18 from the stripe in the second half alone, while UWA was just 4 of 7 from the line in the final stanza.
