COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a 54-hole score of 924 to finish 12
th at the Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State University on the par 70, 6,512-yard Green Island Country Club course Tuesday.
Anderson (S.C.) won the even with an 859 score, edging Gulf South Conference foe Lee by one stroke. Clayton State finished third (867), followed by Carson-Newman (878) and a tie for fifth between Saint Leo and Coker at 881. Barton College finished seventh at 883, followed by Columbus State (895), Georgia College (896) and West Georgia was tenth (903). Mississippi College finished 11
th at 918, followed by VSU at 924.
Lee's Beck Burnette fired a final round 68 to earn medalist honors with a 5-under 205 as he moved up three spots following Monday's rounds. Anderson's Reece Coleman finished second at 1-under 209, while Clayton State's Felipe Gomez was third at even par 210. Anderson's Calahan Keever finished fourth at 211 and Clayton State's Daniel Medelin was fifth at 213.
For the Blazers, freshman
Ty Folsom finished tied for 33
rd to pace the team with a final round 77 and a 226 score (70-76-75). Sophomore
Gage Winkler finished tied for 52
nd with a 233 score (82-74-77), while freshman
Joshua Buerki fired a final round 75 to lead the team and finished tied for 54
th with a 234 score on rounds of 83, 76 and 75. Senior
Ryan Pollman finished tied for 61
st with a 238 score (76-82-80) and senior
Chase Weathers finished 65
th at 242 with rounds of 81, 77 and 84. Individually, sophomore
Zach Ashley finished tied for 54
th with a 234 score on a trio of 78s.
The Blazers return home and have a quick turnaround as they head Oct. 3-4 to Duluth, Ga., for the Georgia State Invitational at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
