BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team opened the 2022-23 season at The Griffin Invitational Monday with a 36-hole score of 600 on rounds of 299 and 301. The team sits tenth heading into the final round Tuesday on the par 72, 7,557-yard Southern Hills Golf Club course.
West Florida leads the 13-team field with a score of 563, while Barry is six strokes off the lead at 569 for second. Nova Southeastern is third at 574, followed by Lynn (577) and Tampa rounds out the top five at 587.
Host Saint Leo sits sixth (590), followed by Florida Southern (593), Rollins (595), Palm Beach Atlantic (596) and VSU is tenth. Fayetteville State (N.C.) is 11
th with a 606 score, followed by Wilmington (Del.) at 633 and Eckerd is 13
th at 640.

Monday's action was delayed 57 minutes due to lightning in the area during the second round. VSU is led by senior
Ryan Pollman who carded rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147 score and is tied for 26
th. Senior
Chase Weathers is tied for 34
th on rounds of 75 and 74, while sophomore
Gage Winkler is tied for 46
th at 151 after carding scores of 74 and 77. Freshman Joshua Burki is tied for 61
st with freshman teammate
Ty Folsom as both players carded 36-hole scores of 154. Sophomore
Brandon Cho, playing as an individual, is tied for 66
th with a 156 score on a pair of 78s.
Barry's AJ Ewart leads the 83-player field with an 8-under 136 on rounds of 66 and 70, as his 66 was the low-round of the day. West Florida's Felipe Garces Garzon is second at 6-under 138 (67 & 71), while there is a tie for third between Michael Hay of Nova Southeastern and Cameron Bonner of West Florida at 5-under 139. In all, ten players sit under par, while an additional seven are even par.
VSU tied for third with West Florida on Monday in pars with 121 and the Blazers carded 14 birdies in the two rounds. Pollman led the way for the Blazers going even par on par 4s, while Weathers was 2-under on par 5s. Winkler was even par on par 3s heading into the final round.
