No. 39 Blazers Finish 14th at Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 39 Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 302 to finish 14th at the 2022 Argonaut Invitational hosted by University of West Florida.  The Blazers finished with a 901 score for the 54-hole event on the par 72, 6,815-yard Pensacola Country Club course.
 
No. 6 Arkansas Tech won the 17-team tournament with a 7-under 857 score, while No. 5 Lee finished second at 3-under 861 and there was a tie for third between No. 11 Limestone and No. 8 Oklahoma Christian at 2-under 862.  No. 9 Georgia Southwestern finished fifth at 1-under 863, while host No. 14 West Florida was even par at 864.  
 
There was a big jump from sixth to seventh as No. 2 Lincoln Memorial finished with an 877 score, followed by No. 27 Clayton State (879), No. 31 Delta State (884) and No. 22 Henderson State rounded out the top ten with an 887 score.  No. 18 Columbus State finished with an 889 score, followed by No. 23 West Georgia (894), No. 38 Grand Valley State (898), the Blazes and Christian Brothers finished 15th at 902.  No. 29 Missouri-St. Louis finished 16th (904) and No. 50 Montevallo was 17th at 909.
 
Arkansas Tech's Francois Jacobs finished 11-under with a 205 score to earn medalist honors, while Clayton State's Nicolas Cabello finished second at 9-under 207.  Lee's Beck Burnette moved up three spots to finish third with a final round 70 and a 209 score.  A total of 14 players finished under par and one was at even par.  
 
For the Blazers, graduate student Wesley Hanson finished tied for 42nd with a 224 score on rounds of 76, 72 and 76, as did junior Chase Weathers (74-77-73).  Senior Gage Smith tied for 49th with a 225 score on rounds of 75, 74 and 76, while sophomore Ryan Pollman tied for 62nd with a 228 score on rounds of 79, 72 and 77.  Redshirt freshman Peyton Balent finished 91st with a 252 score on rounds of 80, 88 and 84.  Playing as an individual, redshirt freshman Trey Tesiero finished 88th at 240 after carding rounds of 78, 83, 79.  
 
The Blazers return home to prepare for the Gulf South Conference Championship, scheduled for Apr. 15-16 in Mobile, Ala., at the Robert Trent Jones-Magnolia Grove.
