VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 56 Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 13 Flagler, Friday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts. With the loss, VSU fell to 7-12 on the year, while Flagler improved to 11-5.
The Saints won the doubles point for the early lead at Nos. 1 and 2, but freshman
Magda Tuells Bonet and
Natalie Kohoutkova gave No. 7-ranked tandem of Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf a great match, falling 6-4. Sophomore
Rachelle Starreveld and freshman
Anastasiia Vorobiova lost at No. 2, 6-2, against Allessandra Traub and Anika Nissen, but freshman sisters
Adriana Barrio and
Andrea Barrio won at No. 3, 6-4, as they continued to have a strong season in doubles.
All six singles matches were in straight-sets as Starreveld won at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1, to tie the match at 1-1. The Saints won the next five matches for the team win. Despite the losses, VSU fought valiantly in each match.
VSU closes out the regular season on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 3 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Courts versus Auburn Montgomery.
