ORLANDO, Fla. – Valdosta State women's tennis fought valiantly, but fell to top-ranked Barry, 6-1 Monday afternoon at the USTA Training Center in Orlando, Fla. The Blazers dropped to 3-6 on the year, while Barry improved to 10-0 on the year.

VSU is just the fourth school to claim a point against Barry this spring. Blazer freshman Andriana Barrio won at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory. The singles matches were played first due to the threat of rain. Freshman
Magda Tuells Bonet dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 2 to Jil Engelmann, while
Elisa Beau lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 to Helene Scholsen.
In doubles, Barry won at the top two spots to claim the team point.
VSU returns to action with matches at West Florida on Mar. 15 and Montevallo on Mar. 18, before a neutral site match against Delta State in Pensacola, Fla., on Mar. 21. The Blazers then return home to host Lynn on Mar. 25 at 2 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
