Blazer Baseball Heads to Georgia Southwestern for Midweek Matchup

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team heads to Americus, Ga., to face Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday, March 22, for a midweek matchup at 6 p.m.

The Blazers are currently 16-5 overall and 9-2 in Gulf South Conference play while the 'Canes are 10-14 overall and 6-3 in Peach Belt Conference play. 
  
VSU looks to continue its two game win streak on GSW as the Blazers defeated GSW 11-5 earlier this season on Feb. 22, 2022, in Valdosta. The Blazers have 11 wins and 11 losses with a 3-7 away record against the Hurricanes. 
  
The Blazers head into the midweek matchup after they swept Shorter University in a home conference weekend series. The Blazers defeated the Hawks in game one 2-0, in game two 11-8, and in game three, 6-2.  
  
Valdosta State is currently third in the South Region Poll and has 57 points in the DII National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll. Tampa tops the list with 80 points followed by Rollins (69), Valdosta State (57), West Florida (53), Florida Tech (51), Nova Southeastern (43), Delta State (32), Lynn (14), Savannah State (14), Auburn Montgomery (7), and Montevallo (7). 
  
Nationally speaking, VSU is tied for 23rd in sacrifice bunts and third the league with 14, while it is fifth in the GSC and tied for 68th nationally in sacrifice flies with 10. The Blazers are tied for 71st nationally in triples with six and tied for first in the league.  VSU is second in the GSC with a 3.51 ERA for 20th nationally. Offensively, EJ Doskow is leading the GSC in batting average (.443), on base percentage (0.535), on base + slugging percentage (1.306), and RBI (30). Defensively, Elijah Gill is currently first in the GSC with a 1.54 ERA, second in wins with five, second in batters struck out looking with 17, and third in total strikeouts with 40. 
  
Following the midweek game, the Blazers face GSC foe Mississippi College for an away weekend series in Clinton, Miss.
