VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team is set to host Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University for weekend series at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park. The series will begin with a single game on Sat., March 19 at 1 p.m., and will finish with a doubleheader on Sun., March 20, beginning at 1 p.m.
The Blazers are currently 13-5 overall and 6-2 in GSC play while the Hawks are 14-7 overall and 8-3 in GSC play.
VSU looks to continue its winning streak over Shorter as they defeated the Hawks 6-5 in their last matchup on Feb. 28, 2021. The Blazers have 15 wins and six losses with a 10-2 home record against the Hawks.

Anthony Gutierrez laced an RBI double to center in the bottom of the seventh inning to clinch the victory.
Valdosta State is currently fifth in the South Region Poll and has 42 points in the DII National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll. Nova Southeastern (78) and Tampa (72) tops the list at first and second, followed by Rollins (57), West Florida (49), Valdosta State (42), Florida Tech (27), Lynn (27), Delta State (23), Savannah State (13), and Shorter (12).
Nationally speaking, VSU is tied for 21st in sacrifice bunts and third the league with 13, while it is third in the GSC and tied for 44th nationally in sacrifice flies with 10. The Blazers are tied for 73rd nationally in triples with five and tied for first in the league. VSU is second in the GSC with a 3.56 ERA for 27th nationally. Offensively, Romano is 13th in the GSC in runs scored with 21, while Doskow is tied for 44th nationally and is tied for first in the GSC in RBI with 26. Defensively,
Elijah Gill is currently fourth in the GSC with a 1.93 ERA and fourth in wins with four.
