Blazer Baseball Set to Host Thomas University

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State Baseball team is set to host Thomas University on Wed., March 16, at 5 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park. 
 
Valdosta State's away series against Union was postponed due to inclement weather and the Blazers are at 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the Gulf South Conference. 
 
The Nighthawks are 13-11 overall and 0-6 in the Sun Conference.  
 
The Blazers currently have five wins and one loss against the Night Hawks with a come from behind, walk-off wild pitch, 8-7 victory in their last matchup on March 3, 2020, in Valdosta. 
 
Valdosta State is currently fifth in the South Region Poll and has 42 points in the DII National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll. Nova Southeastern (78) and Tampa (72) tops the list at first and second, followed by Rollins (57), West Florida (49), Valdosta State (42), Florida Tech (27), Lynn (27), Delta State (23), Savannah State (13), and Shorter (12). 
  
Nationally speaking, VSU is tied for 16th in sacrifice bunts and third the league with 13, while it is fourth in the GSC and tied for 53rd nationally in sacrifice flies with nine. The Blazers are tied for 67th nationally in triples with five and tied for first in the league.  VSU is second in the GSC with a 3.61 ERA for 24th nationally. Offensively, Romano is 14th in the GSC in runs scored with 21, while Doskow is tied for 32nd nationally and is tied for third in the GSC in RBI with 26. 
  
Following the weekday game, the Blazers host Shorter in a GSC weekend series at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park. The series begins with a single game on Fri., March 18, at 5 p.m. and will finish with a doubleheader on Sat., March 19, starting at 1 p.m.
