VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 2 Valdosta State softball team has the honor of highlighting sophomore Katie Proctor as this week's Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday.
The Ringgold, Ga., native, hit 7 of 10 from the plate in four games helping lead VSU to wins over Georgia Southwestern and Lee for a 3-1 record this past week. She scored four runs with two doubles and two home runs while driving in nine. Proctor slugged 1.500 for the week with two walks for a .750 on-base clip.
Proctor had key home runs in both games at Lee last weekend as the Blazers swept a doubleheader in Cleveland, Tenn., on Saturday. She went 5 of 8 from the field, had three runs scored, two home runs and eight RBI in the twin bill. Proctor's first blast came in the third inning as VSU built a 4-0 lead and eventually took game one 9-7, while the second home run pulled VSU within 11-8 in the fifth inning in game two, as the Blazers won in dramatic fashion 14-11, overcoming a 6-2 deficit following the first inning.
The Blazers are back in action on March 2, at Flagler for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla., and the Blazers then will return home to host Montevallo this weekend for a GSC home series.
