VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team is set to host Gulf South Conference foe Alabama Huntsville in its first home series of the 2022 season at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 19 starting at 1 p.m., and will finish with a single game on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m.

The Blazers look to keep their win streak alive from their home season opener earlier this week when they defeated the Lions of Saint Leo 8-7 with a thrilling, walk-off triple from senior
Jisjar Clotida.

Against the Lions, VSU was led by junior
Ryan Romano, who was the lone Blazer recording a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, along with one of three triples by the Blazers in the game.Â

Sophomore
Raymond Fields (1-0) earns the victory in one third of an inning. As senior starter
Brandon Raiden went 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, four runs – one earned, walked two and fanned four.

The Blazers are currently 4-3 overall and are currently being led by junior Ej Doskow, sophomore
Preston Joye, and graduate student
Mike Christopoulos.  Doskow is 11-27 on the season with three doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI, eight runs, and is hitting a .407. Joye is 7-14 at the plate, hitting a .500, with one double, one triple, three RBI, and four runs. Christopoulos is 8-23 at the plate, hitting a .348, with one double, one RBI, and three runs.

Alabama Huntsville is currently 3-5 on the season and sits ninth in the Gulf South Conference Standings, two places behind the Blazers.

The Chargers, who are 3-5 this season, last faced the Blazers on May 2, 2021, when UAH came out on top 15-12. Last time these teams matched up at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park was March 11, 2018, when the Blazers fell 7-5.  The series is knotted at 18-18 all-time in Valdosta.

Alabama Huntsville (3-5) is currently hitting .324 on the season with 90 hits, 19 doubles, eight home runs, 64 RBI, and 78 total runs.

Following the home weekend series, the Blazers are back at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park on Tues. Feb. 22, at 5 p.m., facing Georgia Southwestern.
