SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 307 Tuesday to finish 15
th at the 2022 Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate on the par 72, 7,136-yard St. Johns Golf and Country Club. VSU opened the tournament with a pair of 310 rounds in the 22-team tournament.
North Georgia edged host Lincoln Memorial University by four strokes to win the tournament as UNG finished with an 884 score, while LMU finished at 888. Georgia Southwestern finished third with an 897 score, while Anderson (S.C.) was fourth with a 900 score and Flagler was fifth with a 902 score.
UNG's Evan Thompson won medalist honors with a 7-under 209, while Anderson's Reece Coleman was second with a 3-under 213 and Limestone's Kristoffer Larsson was third at 1-under 215.
For the Blazers, graduate student
Wesley Hanson finished tied for 47
th with a 231 score on rounds of 74, 75 and 82. Sophomore
Jackson Cross finished tied for 56
th with two rounds of 79 and a 74 on Tuesday. Sophomore
Ryan Pollman finished tied for 70
th with a 235 score on rounds of 78, 82 and 75, as did junior
Chase Weathers on rounds of 79, 80 and 76. Redshirt freshman
Brandon Cho finished tied for 97
th with a 245 score as he fired rounds of 86, 76 and 83.
The Blazers finished eighth in the tournament in pars with 148, while they tallied 27 birdies for the tournament to tie for 14
th with Southern Wesleyan and Wingate. VSU finished sixth in par 4 scoring at a 4.31 average, while it tied for 11
th in par 3 scoring at 3.42.
The Blazers return home to prepare for the Saint Leo Invitational, Feb. 21-22, at Lake Jovita CC in Dade City, Fla.
