VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team is set to host the Lions of Saint Leo for its 2022 season home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m., at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.

The Blazers are 3-3 on the year after three games in South Florida where they faced Nova Southeastern, Barry, and Lynn. The Blazers went 1-2 over the weekend, as they defeated Barry 11-3 and lost to both Nova Southeastern and Lynn.
Junior
EJ Doskow stood out for the Blazers over the weekend going 6-13 at the dish with two doubles, one home run, seven RBI, and one walk, while he scored five runs. Doskow finished the weekend with a .462 batting average. Also, sophomore
Preston Joye finished with a .625 batting average going 5-8 with one double, one RBI, and crossed the plate for Valdosta State three times.
Sophomore
JJ Finn recorded the win against Barry going six innings, allowing eight hits, one earned run, walked one and fanned two. He improved to 2-0 on the year in 11 innings of work for the season.
The Blazers are currently hitting .254 as a team with 53 hits, nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, 29 RBI, and 35 runs scored. Valdosta State is slugging .344% and has an on base percentage of .328.
The Blazers look to keep their win streak going against the Lions from their last matchup on Feb. 18, 2020, when Valdosta State came out on top 4-3. The Blazers have 12 wins and seven losses over the Lions over the last 19 meetings. During that stretch, VSU is 6-2 against SLU in Valdosta, including an 11-6 victory on Apr. 9, 2019.
The Lions are currently 6-2 on the season with a two game win streak as they come from a series win against Flagler College. Saint Leo fell to Flagler 5-4 in the first game but came out on top the next two 7-2 and 11-4.
Saint Leo is hitting .325 as a team with 93 hits, 14 doubles, six home runs, 57 RBI, 62 runs, a slugging percentage of .437, and an on-base percentage of .396.
Following the home opener on Wednesday, the Blazers host Gulf South Conference foe Alabama Huntsville for their first GSC home series of the season. The Chargers and Blazers will play a doubleheader on Saturday Feb. 19, starting at 1 p.m., and will finish the series with a single game on Sunday Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
