SEASIDE, Calif. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 307 to finish with a 54-hole score of 929 at the Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday on the par 72, 7,104-yard Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course in a highly competitive tournament, featuring a number of top 30 teams. No. 4-ranked Barry led the 18-team field with an 8-under 856 score.
The host Otters finished tied for second with No. 6-ranked Sonoma State at 867, while No. 21 Georgia Southwestern finished fourth at 878, followed by No. 27 Cal State East Bay at 879. CSUMB's Simon Bjorken won medalist honors with an 11-under 205 on rounds of 67, 69 and 69, while Barry's Nicolas Quintero finished second at 8-under 208 and Cal State East Bay's Ryan Hong, who was playing as an individual, finished third at 7-under 209.
For the Blazers, senior
Chase Weathers fired a final round 74 to pace the team and finished with a 227 score to tie for 53
rd, while freshman
Ty Folsom also carded a 74 to finish at a 228 score and tied for 59
th with a 78 and 76 on Monday. Freshman
John Collier Thornton finished 86
th as he steadily improved throughout the tournament firing rounds of 82, 80 and 76. Senior
Ryan Pollman finished tied for 87
th with a 239 score on rounds of 77, 78 and 84, while sophomore
Brandon Cho was 93
rd with a 243 score after carding scores of 80, 80 and 83.
The Blazers return to action in February at the Matlock Collegiate hosted by Florida Southern on Feb. 6-7, 2023, at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Fla.
