Durham and Oballe Named Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State football junior quarterback Ivory Durham and women's soccer freshman forward Jocelyn Oballe were named the Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week, announced Friday. 
 
This week marks the second week for Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week this season with football pulling off a dominating road victory at Virginia Union, 51-7, win, while the women's soccer team went 2-1 last week and recorded victories at Albany State (11-0) and the first win in program history over North Georgia in a 2-1 victory for the 2021 home opener last Sunday.
 
Oballe, a native of Alpharetta, Ga., recorded the game winning goal over UNG just 54 seconds after UNG had leveled the match midway through the second half.  Oballe not only scored the game winner, but also recorded her first ever collegiate goal and first goal for the red and black. For the season, Oballe has played in all four matches with one goal on five shots with four on frame and the game winner.
 
Durham, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., completed two touchdowns and ran for two scores in the Blazers' victory last week. Durham finished completing 16 of 31 for 175 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also tallied his first 100-yard game of his career on the ground with for carries for 112 yards and two scores.  His two rushing scores came on runs of 39 and 59 yards.  Durham earned GSC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts last week.   For the season, Durham has ten carries for 143 yards and two scores, while he is 29 of 49 passing for 335 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.  
 
The No. 3/4-ranked Blazers are off to a 2-0 start and have won 23-straight regular season games and 27 of the last 28 games overall dating back to 2017.  
 
VSU Blazer soccer is 3-1 on the year and continues its homestand Friday evening at 6 p.m., versus Embry-Riddle at the VSU Soccer Complex.  The Blazer football team is set to host Albany State Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in a battle of 2-0 teams.
