No. 9 Blazers Move up to Second in Latest NCAA South Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The latest NCAA Division II Softball Region Rankings were released by the NCAA on Wednesday and the No. 9-ranked Valdosta State Blazers moved up a spot to No. 2 in the latest South Region rankings.

Gulf South Conference champion, Auburn Montgomery, took over the top spot, moving up from No. 2 last week, while VSU moved to second from third and Alabama Huntsville fell from first to third this week.  Rollins remained fourth in the rankings as West Florida also remained fifth.  Mississippi College, who reached the GSC title game, is sixth, followed by Tampa at seventh and West Georgia remained eighth.  
 
The Blazers are 34-8 overall after going 2-2 in the GSC Championship last week in Oxford, Ala.  VSU went 25-5 in GSC play this season earning a share of the regular season title with AUM.  The Warhawks are 39-5 on the year, while UAH is 31-12.  
 
Valdosta State was chosen Apr. 16, as a pre-determined site to host the NCAA Division II Softball South Regional, May 19-22 at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.  The NCAA Division II Championships Committee chose pre-determined regional sites for the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball Championships.  Due to health and safety protocols surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is necessary to conduct all NCAA championship competition at predetermined sites.  The committee believes the sites and hosts chosen will provide an exceptional and safe experience for all participants.
 
The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championship May 27-31 at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver in Denver, Colo.
 
Participating teams in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship are scheduled to be announced May 16 at 10 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.  Regional host institutions will host the regional regardless of if their team qualifies for the NCAA postseason or not.  Check back with vstateblazers.com later this week for a link to the selection show.
 
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park will have a limited capacity. Capacity is set for 340, with 250 in the grandstands and 90 available in the outfield grass. Tournament passes are $25 for adults and $15 for youth (ages 4-College/w student ID) and seniors (65+). Single-day passes are $10 for adults and $8 for youth (ages 4-College/w student ID) and seniors (65+).
