Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The No. 25 Valdosta State Blazers were able to split its Saturday doubleheader, dropping game one 6-5 while coming back and winning game two 7-3 in extra innings.

The Blazers (24-13, 22-12 Gulf South Conference) were led by
Logan Stephens who finished the doubleheader with three RBI and three hits during eight at-bats.
Nick Lewis also finished the game with three hits, one of two Blazers to do so. In game one, VSU went four-straight innings where it stranded runners on third base as UAH got ahead early with two runs in the fifth.
Logan Stephens got the Blazers on the board with a homerun in the sixth, but UAH pushed three runners across to put the Chargers lead to 5-1. The Chargers were able to make it 6-1 in the seventh and eventually forced VSU to try and get five runs with three outs to go. Four Blazers were able to record a RBI in the ninth but the Chargers were able to close out game one with the win. It was a defensive battle in game two as the Chargers got ahead early with a run in the first. From the second inning through the sixth, neither team was able to pick up a run and only six hits were recorded between the two teams. VSU was able to get on the board in the seventh as
Chase Coker sent a blast towards left field for a two-run homerun to put the Blazers up 2-1. UAH was able to tie things up at two in the eighth which eventually forced extra innings. Stephens knocked down a RBI single to give the Blazers the go-ahead run. The Chargers were able to tie things up with a sacrifice fly to extend the game into the 11
th.
Jakob Sessa put the Blazers up two in the 11
th followed by a two-run single from
Jordan Holt to put VSU up 7-3. VSU took care of business to end the game and split the day. The pitching core was able to fan 21 batters, led by
Tristan Cone who recorded 10 while only allowing six hits. In total, VSU recorded 19 hits off 72 at-bats as UAH was able to record 21 off 72 at-bats. VSU saw 15 of its runners stranded while UAH left 19 runs stranded on the base pads.

Jowenrick Daantji was able to reach base with two outs and found third off a stolen base and a throwing error to put him 90 feet away from home. A common trend that would happen throughout the game though as he was stranded on third. In the top of the second, the first three Blazers were able to find the basepads, putting the team in a bases loaded situation with no outs. Nothing was going for the Blazers though as it left all three runners stranded to keep the game at zero.

After a hit by pitch,
Nick Lewis was able to find third off a sacrifice bunt followed by a groundout but was stranded 90 feet away for the Blazers fifth runner left on base. The Blazers defense was keeping up though as it left one Charger stranded for the third straight inning leaving a runner stranded. Just like in the third, Holt forced a walk off a full count and found third base off a stolen base and a throwing error but was once again stranded for the fourth straight inning stranding a runner at third base.

The Blazers were able to secure a hit in the fifth which eventually turned into a double play. The Blazers left the fifth with no runs but didn't leave a runner stranded for the first time in the game. UAH was able to get its bats going where it knocked down two runs to put itself ahead 2-0 after five.

After a strikeout, Stephens came up to the plate and smacked one out of the park to add a run on the board for the Blazers for its only run in the sixth. The Chargers were able to answer though where it added a trio of runs to extend its lead to 5-1 coming down to the wire.
Ralph Morla Jr. followed by Lewis recorded singles to find the basepads but were stranded to leave more Blazers stuck on the basepads. A single for the Chargers extended the lead to five to force a comeback for the Blazers in its final two innings.

The Chargers made three straight outs on the Blazers to give VSU three more outs to work with to try and tie the game up.
Jisjar Clotida got things started on the right foot in the ninth with a triple, followed by a walk to put runners on first and third.
Ben Rowdon singled up the middle to drive in Clotida, followed by a Lewis single to cut the lead to three. Rowdon and Lewis were pushed up a base after a passed ball which allowed Sessa to hit a sacrifice fly to cut the Blazers deficit to just two. The pressure was on as Stephens smacked a single to drive Lewis in to make it 6-5 but the Chargers were able to close the game and get the win.

VSU hit into a one-two-three inning which brought up the Chargers who pushed one across off a fielding error. It was a pitching duel afterwards as no runs were scored through the next five innings. VSU looked to get things started though in the second off an
EJ Doskow single followed up by a
Carson Neal single, but both runners were left stranded.

After the Chargers left two stranded as well off a hit and a walk, both teams played lights out as neither team was able to record a hit in the third and fourth inning. Jakob Harper broke the hitless streak for both teams in the fifth but was left stranded, followed up by UAH who recorded its first hit since the second inning but was left stranded. The game pushed along in the sixth where only one hit was recorded, coming from the Chargers, putting the Blazers down with just nine more outs to work with.

Now in the seventh, Neal was able to record another hit with a single to left field which brought up
Chase Coker. Coker drilled one deep passed the left field fence for a homerun to put the Blazers up for the first time in the series, now up 2-1 after the seventh. VSU continued to battle defensively where it didn't let up a hit or a runner on base. The Blazers couldn't get anything going in the eighth where the Chargers were able to tie things up off a RBI double to make things 2-2.

The Blazers hoped to break the tie in the ninth but couldn't get a runner on the bags which it matched in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. In extras, Coker, who was placed at second due to the extra inning rule, found third off a sacrifice bunt followed by a Stephens RBI to give the Blazers a 3-2 advantage after the top inning. The Chargers were able to add one of its own to tie things up at 3-3.

After Lewis was walked, both him and Rowdon advanced a base off a passed ball putting two runners in scoring position. Sessa came in to pinch hit and smacked a double in towards the left field gap to bring in two important runners, putting VSU up 5-3. Holt was able to single up the middle to extend the Blazers lead, driving in two more Blazers to put the team ahead 7-3. The Chargers had three more outs to work with and the Blazers were able to take care of business, fanning the last batter.
