MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 2 Valdosta State softball team opened a three-game series at Christian Brothers with a 15-0 victory in five innings Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader. The Blazers improved to 30-3 on the year and 23-2 in Gulf South Conference play, while CBU fell to 7-27 overall and 7-21 in GSC play. VSU also won its 19
th-straight game with the victory.

The Blazers got off to a quick start in the opener as VSU saw three-straight walks followed by a freshman
Taylor Macera single up the middle for an RBI and a 1-0 lead. Senior
Lacey Crandall followed with a bases-clearing double for a 4-0 lead in the first. CBU put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning and, a 40-minute rain delay later, was unable to score as VSU sophomore
Samantha Richards got out of the jam with a ground out and a pop out.Â

Hunter Meadows began the top of the second with a single up the middle and stole second. Freshman
Morgan Hill belted her 13
th home run of the season for a 6-0 lead off CBU starter Macy Cuming. It was the 77
th home run of the season for the Blazers as the team entered the series leading the nation in round-trippers. Two more walks and a dropped fly proved costly for the Bucs as freshman
Aniston Gano reached on the miscue and Macera plated two runs for an 8-0 lead. In the fourth, Crandall doubled home two runs for a 10-0 lead.

Kiley Robb singled through the left side loading the bases. Gano reached on catcher's interference for the first run of the inning and Macera came up huge once again with a two RBI single to left for a 13-0 lead. Meadows and freshman
Kayla Tosone each hit RBI singles for a 15-0 lead.

Richards closed out the Bucs in order in the fifth for the victory as she improved to 20-2 on the year, going five innings, allowing three hits, walked three and fanned seven for her seventh shutout of the season. Macera finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBI for a career-best game in both hits and RBI. Robb was 1 for 1 with four runs scored, while Crandall was 2 for 4 with a run scored, two doubles and a team-high five RBI.Â

VSU tallied its sixth-straight shutout in the game and 12
th of the season, while recording its 17
th run-rule game of the season and 11
th in five innings. The 15 runs matched the season-high output scored against Albany State in the opener of a doubleheader on Mar. 17, in Valdosta.
