VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 6 West Florida Friday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Blazers (4-6, 4-2 GSC) got a victory from freshman
Rachelle Starreveld at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 6-4, while UWF (9-3, 6-0 GSC) won the remaining five singles matches in straight-sets and won all three doubles matches. At the top spot in doubles, VSU duo of senior Estee' Widdershoven and sophomore
Eva Rivoal dropped a hard-fought 7-5 decision to Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin.
Widdershoven lost 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to Bonardi, while junior
Birte Langenstein fell 6-3, 6-3, to Karolina Silwanowicz at No. 4 and junior
Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir fell 6-4, 6-2, to Samantha Echevarria at No. 5 singles.
The Blazers have four conference matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with three in Pensacola, Fla., versus West Georgia, Mississippi College and West Alabama, Apr. 9-11. VSU then will face Christian Brothers on Apr. 16 in Montgomery, Ala., in a makeup match from earlier in the season.
