No. 27 Blazers Sit Third Following Two Rounds of Gulf South Conference Championship

MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 27 Valdosta State men's golf team fired a 574 score for 36-holes at the 2021 Gulf South Conference Championship and currently sit third heading into tomorrow's final round.  The Blazers carded rounds of 290 and 284 on the par 72, 7,212-yard Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Crossings golf course.  Top ranked West Florida leads the ten-team field with a blistering 21-under par and a 555 score. 
 
The Argos posted rounds of 281 and 274 to hold a nine-stroke lead over No. 8 Lee who sits at 564 (286-278).  VSU is 2-under (574), while Christian Brothers is even par at 576, followed by Montevallo at 581 to round out the top five.  Delta State sits sixth at 584, followed by Union (592), West Georgia (593), Mississippi College (594) and Shorter at 605. 
 
UWF's EliasHaavisto leads the field with a 12-under 132, while teammate Alejandro Restrepo and Lee's Evan Spence are tied for second at 8-under 136.  Lee's Oliver Lewis-Perkins and Christian Brothers' Harry Brow are tied for fourth at 5-under 139.  A total of 13 golfers sit under par, including VSU senior Wesley Hanson who is tied for seventh at 3-under 141 (70-71) and sophomore Gage Smith who is tied for 11th at 2-under 142 (74-68). 
 
VSU sophomore Chase Weathers carded a 146 and currently sits tied for 19th after rounds of 76 and 70.  Senior AJ Ouimet also is tied for 19th with a 70 and a 76.  Freshman Ryan Pollman sits tied for 39th with a 153 score on rounds of 78 and 75. 
 
The Blazers were +6 in par 4 scoring for second in the tournament behind UWF, who was a staggering -14 on par 4s.  Lee was 16-under on par 5s, while the Flames were +3 on par 3s to lead the tournament.  VSU had the second-most pars with 116 for the two rounds behind Montevallo's 119, while the Blazers had 29 birdies.  UWF finished with 49 birdies on Sunday.  Hanson and Weathers each had six birdies to lead the team, while Hanson and Ouimet each had 27 pars to lead the team.
 
Monday's final round gets underway Monday beginning at 9 a.m. ET.  VSU is scheduled to tee off beginning at 9:45 a.m. ET and play with West Florida and Lee for the second-straight day.  Check back with vstateblazers.com for live stats and a complete recap following Monday's final round.
