MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 9 Valdosta State softball team scored 19 runs in a pair of run-rule shutouts Saturday afternoon at Montevallo. VSU opened the three-game series with an 8-0 victory and closed the twin bill with an 11-0 win.
VSU improved to 10-1 on the year and 8-0 in Gulf South Conference play to lead the league as it ran its winning streak to ten games. VSU hit a blistering .480 off Falcon pitching, going 24 of 50 from the dish with three doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI. The team slugged .780 and reached base at a .550 clip. Freshman
Morgan Hill went 5 for 6 with a team-high six runs scored, one double and two home runs for the day, while junior
Nicole Pennington went 5 for 6 with four runs scored, one home run and five RBI. Senior
Logan Hill blasted her first home run of the season – a grand slam – as she led the team with seven RBI.

Samantha Richards, dominated as they both posted shutouts. Richards allowed four hits, walked one and fanned five, while M. Hill tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap with no walks and fanned five. Richards and M. Hill held Montevallo to just five hits (.143 b/avg) with one extra base hit and fanned the Falcons ten times.
#9 Valdosta State 8, Montevallo 0 (Game One)
The Blazers opened the first game with three runs in the top of the first as M. Hill doubled to left to begin the game. Pennington continued her strong play where she left off last week, blasting her fifth home run of the season for a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, freshman
Taylor Macera singled home a run for a 3-0 lead. Hill hit a home run to right center in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, L. Hill blasted her grand slam as the frame began with two walks and a single for an 8-0 lead. L. Hill led the nation in home runs last season before the COVID-19 Pandemic cancelled the rest of the season in March.
Richards retired the Falcons in order in both the fourth and fifth innings as she improved to 6-1 on the year with her sixth complete game and second shutout. M. Hill was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and one RBI, while Pennington was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBI.

In the nightcap, VSU scored in every inning, beginning with an RBI ground out by L. Hill and RBI double to right center from sophomore
Kiley Robb. The Blazers added single runs in the second and third innings as M. Hill blasted her second home run of the day and reigning GSC Freshman of the Week,
Aniston Gano, doubled home a run for a 4-0 lead.
VSU plated six runs in the fourth inning for a 10-0 lead and added one in the fifth on a Pennington RBI single to right field. M. Hill allowed the one hit in the third inning on a double to left center. For the game, the Blazers were led by Pennington, who went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while L. Hill was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Robb and M. Hill each collected two hits.
