Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The No. 19 Valdosta State Blazers completed its weekend sweep after a pair of wins against Montevallo by scores of 10-3 and 9-4.

The Blazers (11-4, 10-4 Gulf South Conference) won its fourth game in-a-row after it swept the Montevallo Falcons after its doubleheader Saturday.
David Maberry led the Blazers with his five hits and was able to bat in four batters during the two-game matchup. The Blazers pitching came up big as it totaled 18 strikeouts with seven runs. The Blazers finished Saturday with 21 hits and ran up 19 runs to complete the sweep. The Blazers hit four out-of-the-park with help from

Maberry added another RBI to his name during the weekend on a deep sacrifice fly to right field to bring in
Ben Rowdon who advanced to third after a Lewis double.
Logan Stephens grounded out to the shortstop but brought in Lewis to give the Blazers an early lead. The Falcons answered in the bottom of the first with a run of its own, cutting the lead in half.

The Blazers bats kept on going during the next inning where Lewis singled over the head of the first baseman to bring Rowdon in for his second time crossing home plate. The Blazers left two stranded but were able to push one across to extend its lead. Both teams saw one-two-three innings during the next two and a half innings before Montevallo broke things up with a sole hit in the bottom of the fifth. Starting pitcher
Tristan Cone was dealing through 5.2 innings, where he only allowed four hits and two runs – one earned, with seven strikeouts.

The Blazers tacked on a run as
Chase Coker found home to give it a 4-1 lead, but Montevallo answered shortly after an RBI double to cut the deficit to two. With no outs, the Blazers came up with three outs to leave two stranded and get out of the jam.

Montevallo put the pressure on where it made it a one run game in the bottom of the seventh off a double down the right field line. The Blazers answered big though as Lewis got things started with a bomb towards left center. Maberry sent one to the moon during the next at-bat for back-to-back Blazer homeruns to give it a 6-3 lead. The Falcons got two outs, but the Blazers kept on pushing as
Ryan Delnegro batted Doskow in followed by a
Collin Teegarden single to bring in Delnegro. Now with an 8-3 lead after eight, the Blazers were in the driver's seat.

During the Blazers final at-bats, Holt blasted one to right field to bring in himself and Lewis to give itself a big seven-run cushion. The Falcons singled to start off the bottom of the ninth but VSU was able to retire the next three batters to win game one of the Saturday doubleheader 10-3.
Zach Henderson came in for his first save opportunity and came through during 2.2 innings, only allowing three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The Blazers didn't cool off after the half hour intermission as Rowdon started things off with a double down the left field line to immediately put himself in scoring position. Maberry singled through the left side to bring in Rowdon and get an early 1-0 lead in the ball game. Coker reached on a fielder's choice but forced an out to have one runner on with two away. Doskow smacked a homerun to left field to give a Blazers a nice 3-0 lead early in the first to give it some momentum.

Ralph Morla Jr. singled the following inning and advanced to second off a ground out to put him in scoring position. Lewis brought Morla Jr. in after he reached on a fielding error to put the Blazers up by four. The Falcons got some hits going in the bottom half of the inning, but the Blazers shut it down and left two runners on base.

The Blazers bats fell flat during the next few innings where it only accounted for one hit through the next five innings. The Falcons were able to get some runs on the board off an RBI single in the fifth along with a trio of runs in the third off of three hits. The Blazers came up big when it needed it in the eighth after a forced walk from
Jowenrick Daantji to give the Blazers the lead. Delnegro grounded out to second base and brought in Maberry followed by a wild pitch to bring Coker home to give the Blazers a nice 7-4 lead.

The Blazers added some insurance runs during the top of the ninth from Maberry who singled through the right side to bring in Morla Jr. followed by a fielding error the next batter to see Lewis cross home plate.

Jakob Barker came in for relief and was able to send three batters back to the dugout to complete the weekend sweep with a final score of 9-4.

Maberry led with four hits during game two and tied Doskow with two RBI. Both teams ended the ball game with nine hits and Montevallo played the field poorly as it committed seven errors and left 10 batters stranded.
