VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 7 Valdosta State men's tennis team kept its perfect record with a 7-0 victory over Montevallo Tuesday afternoon, while the women's team downed the Falcons 5-2, at the VSU Tennis Complex. The Blazer men's team improved to 8-0 on the year and 5-0 in Gulf South Conference play, while the women's team evened its record at 4-4 and 4-1 in league play.
On the men's side, the Blazers made quick work of the Falcons in doubles, winning all three matches for the 1-0 lead in the team scoring. Senior

Florian Simbozel won at No. 1, 6-2, while freshmen
Luca Mack and
Edward Etty won at No. 2, 6-3. Sophomore

Christian Felline won at No. 3, 6-2.
In singles, the Blazers won five of the matches in straight-sets, while the sixth match went to a super tiebreaker as the match already had been decided. Felline won 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 10-5 at No. 5 singles. Freshman
Cameron Henricy Trigolos gave VSU a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles over Jules Dugue, while Nguyen won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 for a 3-0 lead. Freshman
Christian Wedel clinched the match at No. 3 singles with 6-2, 7-5 victory over Daniel Del Val. Mack won at No. 4, 6-1, 7-5, while Simbozel won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Blazer men's team has a pair of enormous contests next week at top-ranked Columbus State visits on Mar. 31 at 2 p.m., while No. 4 West Florida is scheduled for a 2 p.m. match at VSU on Apr. 2.
On the women's side, VSU claimed the doubles points with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 as freshman

Birte Langenstein won at No. 3, 6-0 and freshman
Rachelle Starreveld and junior
Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir won at No. 2, 6-2. Senior Estee' Widdershoven and sophomore
Eva Rivoal battled back to a 4-5 deficit, but were unable to even the match as Dorotea Hanzek and Mireia Turro won 6-4 at the top spot.
Widdershoven, however, got payback in singles over Turro, in a hard-fought match at the top spot, winning 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) as VSU won at the top four singles spots to claim the victory. Rivoal won at No. 2, while Starreveld won at No. 3 and Langenstein won at No. 4 all in straight-sets.
Montevallo's Victoria Rauscher defeated Saving at No. 5 and Isabelle Barfoot won at No. 6 in a hard-fought match over Brynjarsdottir, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Just like the men's team, the ladies will host No. 13 Columbus State on Mar. 31 and No. 6 West Florida on Apr. 2 at the VSU Tennis Complex.
