VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Washburn University Thursday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. VSU fell to 1-4 on the year, while Washburn improved to 6-0 on the year.

Julia Saving made quick work of Cadence Lynn and Marta Torres, 6-2 at No. 3. The Ichabods then won at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3 win from Maja Jung and Kinsey Fields over freshman
Rachelle Starreveld and junior
Hera Bjork Brynjarsdottir. Washburn then won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles as Svea Crohn and Logan Morrissey won 6-4 over senior Estee' Widdershoven and sophomore
Eva Rivoal.
Washburn added to its lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win by Jung over Saving at No. 5 for a 2-0 lead. Fields downed Brynjarsdottir at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1, but Langenstein won at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Morrissey for the Blazers' lone team point of the match.
In the only three-set match to finish on the day, Torres downed Rivoal 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the match for the visitors. Widderhoven's match at the top spot was in the third set, while Starreveld was down 5-4 in the second set when play was halted.
The Blazers return to action Friday at 2 p.m. at Shorter for a Gulf South Conference match, followed by a 10 a.m. match Saturday morning at Lee and then the Blazers conclude the road trip Mar. 17 with a 2 p.m. start at Georgia College. VSU then returns home for three key matches, beginning Mar. 23 with Montevallo at the VSU Tennis Complex.
