INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Valdosta State Blazers are one of eight South Region men's basketball teams under consideration for the 2021 NCAA Division II Postseason, announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.
 
The first two regional polls will list teams under consideration in alphabetical order followed by a ranking of the top-eight teams in the South Region.  The Gulf South Conference, the Peach Belt Conference and the Sunshine State Conference comprise the South Region for the 2021 postseason.
 
The Regional Championship will feature the top-six regionally ranked teams, with the winners of the GSC and PBC conference tournaments receiving an automatic bid to the regional.  The remaining four spots will be at-large qualifiers.
 
The NCAA Division II Championships Committee has predetermined regional sites for the 2021 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.  The committee believes the sites and hosts chosen will provide an exceptional and safe experience for all participants.
 
The 2021 South Regional Championship will take place Mar. 13-16 in Valdosta, Ga., with Valdosta State University serving as host.  The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind., Mar. 24-27.
 
Participating teams will be announced Sunday, Mar. 7, on NCAA.com at 10:30 p.m. ET for the men's championship, with the women's championship to be unveiled beforehand at 10:00 p.m. ET.
 
In the initial announcement, the Blazers, along with Alabama Huntsville, Lee, Union, and West Georgia are under consideration from the GSC.  Out of the Peach Belt, Flagler, Georgia College, and Georgia Southwestern complete the eight-teams announced.  VSU has the most victories of any team in the announcement (12), while Alabama Huntsville and Flagler both have one loss.
 
The Blazers are No. 25 nationally in the latest NABC Top 25, while they sit 19th in the D2SIDA Top 25.  VSU is 12-4 on the year and 12-4 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
Following a bye week this week, the Blazers close the 2020-21 regular season on the road Feb. 26-27 at West Florida.  Game time for Feb. 26 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. E.T., while Feb. 27 is a 4 p.m. E.T. tip.
