ROME, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team fell to Shorter Tuesday evening in its second matchup of the season. The Blazers move to 11-17 overall and 4-8 in the Gulf South Conference while the Hawks improve to 15-10 overall and 8-3 in the GSC.Â

First Set:Â
The first set became tied at five before Shorter's offense took the lead, 10-6, scoring from kills and a service ace.Â

The Blazers continued to trail but eventually tied the set at 14 as they went on a four-point rally with a service ace by redshirt freshman
Lyara Rosario and kills by freshman
Jojo Smith and redshirt freshman
Caitlin Warnshuis.Â

The Hawks stopped the Blazers' offense and answered back as they took the lead again 18-15.Â

VSU continued to fight back but were unsuccessful as Shorter took the first set 25-19.Â

Second Set:Â
The Hawks started the second set off strong as they led 5-3, but the Blazers continued to fight back.Â

After two kills by the Hawks, the Blazers added a four-point rally as Daugherty recorded a kill, Warnshuis recorded two kills, and junior
Erin Ergle tallied a service ace as they tied the set at 15. The set became tied again at 19 before Shorter took the lead 22-19.Â

VSU continued to fight as DeLuca, Daugherty, and Smith each recorded kills, all assisted by senior
Tammy Reyes-Perez.Â

The set was tied at 25 before Shorter took the lead and the second set win 27-25 with two service aces.Â

Third Set:Â
Starting the third set off strong again, Shorter took the lead 7-1 as Smith recorded two kills and a service ace as the score became 12-8.Â

VSU went on a five-point rally and scored off a kill by Smith, a service ace from Rosario, and Shorter attacking errors,18-15.Â
Â
The Blazers tied the match at 20 with a service ace by Smith and a kill by freshman
Ah'Miah Harris but the Hawks took back the lead.Â

VSU continued to fight but Shorter came out on top 25-23 and took the match 3-0.Â

For the match, VSU tallied 33 digs, 33 kills, 24 assists, eight blocks, and seven aces. Leading the Blazers in kills was Smith with nine followed by Mims with six and Daugherty with five. Assisting these kills was Reyes-Perez as she tallied 18 while also adding six digs. Rosario and Smith led the Blazers in digs with eight each. Smith also recorded three blocks and two service aces. DeLuca and Harris also added three blocks each as Ergle leading with three service aces as Rosario added two.Â

The Blazers return home to host Christian Brothers on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m., at Valdosta High School and then on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against Union in The Complex.Â
