VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State volleyball freshman
Jojo Smith was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for her performance this past week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This week is the second time Smith has earned the weekly honor as she also was tabbed GSC Freshman of the Week Sept. 14.
Smith had a stellar week playing in seven sets, totaling 23 kills, recording 3.29 kills per set and a .164 hitting percentage. A total of 11 kills were during the win against Christian Brothers, where Smith also totaled 13 digs, recording another double-double of the season.
The Jefferson, Ga. native recorded 19 digs, two solo blocks, and four block assists for the week.
For the season, in 24 sets played, Smith has recorded 87 kills while hitting a .159, 51 digs, five service aces, nine block assists, three solo blocks, and has scored 99.5 points.
Blazer volleyball is back in action this weekend, with two Gulf South Conference matchups versus Lee and Shorter, both at The Complex. VSU hosts Lee on Friday, Oct. 8 at 6 pm, followed by Shorter on Saturday at 3 pm.
