Mack Wins Singles Flight at GSC Fall Tennis Championships

Luca Fall ChampMONTGOMERY, Ala. – Fresh off a doubles runner-up finish at the ITA Championships, Valdosta State sophomore men's tennis standout Luca Mack won his flight at the 2021 Gulf South Conference Fall Tennis Championship in singles this past weekend at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
 
Mack, the top-seeded player in Flight 1, defeated David Rieme of Auburn Montgomery in the final, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 for the flight title.  Also competing in Flight 1 was Blazer junior Christian Felline who, who went 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mississippi College's Hsiang Yi Wang and dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Emile Le Terrier of Delta State.
 
In Flight 2, Blazer graduate newcomer Swann Flohr went 1-1 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Matias Ballatore of Mississippi College and a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Emiliano Elazarraraz of Delta State in the second round.  Sophomore Christian Wedel also competed in the flight, reaching the semifinals with a 7-5, 1-6 (11-9) victory over Come Bracaval of Delta State and a 6-3, 5-7 (12-10) win over Julius Ziebart of Montevallo, before a 6-7, (7-3), 6-2 (10-6) loss to Muhamad Bedwan of Auburn Montgomery.  Bedwan went on to win the flight title, 6-1, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3) over Philippe Zehender of Montevallo.
 
In Flight 3, Blazer sophomore Cameron Henricy Trigolos also reached the semifinals before falling to Jules Dugue of Montevallo, 7-6, (7-3), 6-3.  Sophomore Edward Etty dropped his opening match to Franco Roldan of Delta State, 6-3, 6-4.
 
The doubles portion saw three flights as Mack/Trigolos reached the quarterfinals of flight one, before falling to West Alabama duo of Lucas Hammond and Marcel Hornung, 6-2.  In the same flight, sophomore Edward Etty and Felline wont their first match over UWF duo of Tomas Descarrega and Gabriel Nery, 6-4 and lost to UWA's Ilia Dehodiuk and Patricio Nieto, 6-2.  
 
In Flight 2, Flohr and Wedel reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion tandem of Gavin Salton and Sergi Martinez, 7-5.  The Blazer duo got a bye in the first round and defeated UWF's Sebastian Sotelo and Enzo Bomfim Silveira, 6-1.  Felline/Etty won the one consolation match played, as did Trigolos/Mack.
 
For the men's side, AUM had three victories with two flights in singles and a doubles flight victory, while West Alabama had a singles victory and a doubles victory.  VSU and West Florida each one a flight in singles, while Montevallo won on flight in doubles.
