Match Information – Valdosta State vs. Florida Southern

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Valdosta State Blazer volleyball team fell to Florida Southern in the final day of the Gulf South Conference/ Sunshine State Conference Regional Crossover.
First Set:
The first set was tied at two before the Mocs took the lead 7-3 scoring from kills and VSU attacking errors.
The Blazers rallied off a few points with kills by graduate
Deona Mims, freshman
Jojo Smith, and a service ace from graduate
Grace Daugherty but the Mocs still led 17-13.
VSU brought the Mocs' lead to one as Smith tallied a kill and two service aces, 19-20, but it was not enough as FSC took the first set 25-22.
Second Set:
The Mocs took the lead again early in the second set, 4-1, but the Blazers fought back and tied the score at six with a Smith service ace and a kill by senior
Tammy Reyes-Perez.
VSU continued to trail by a few as senior
Rebecca Sills recorded a service ace, but it was followed with a rally from FSC, 17-12.
Redshirt freshman
Caitlin Warnshuis and Daugherty each recorded kills late in the set, but it was not enough as the Mocs took the second set 25-19.
Third Set:
Warnshuis and Mims started the third set for the Blazers with kills, but FSC responded back the same and took another lead, 7-4.
VSU tallied a few points and brought the score to a one-point difference, 8-7.
The Mocs; defense stopped the Blazers and Florida Southern continued to grow their lead scoring with kills and VSU errors, 15-10.
Kills by Warnshuis and sophomore
Keelyn Williams brought the score to 17-15 but it was not enough as FSC proceeded to take the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
VSU tallied 38 digs, 32 assists, 32 kills, nine blocks, and six aces. Leading the Blazers in digs was Smith with 10, followed by Mims and Warnshuis with eight. Reyes-Perez lead with 28 assists while she added one ace. Redshirt freshman
Lyara Rosario led the Blazers with 13 digs as Smith tallied eight and redshirt freshman
Ramsey Marshall recorded six. Daugherty led with six blocks while Smith recorded three and Williams with two. Smith also led with three aces.

The Blazers return to conference play on Friday, October 29 as they face the Falcons of Montevallo at 7 p.m. in Montevallo, Ala.
