INNISBROOK, Fla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team fired a final round 297 and finished 14
th at the 2021 Copperhead Championship on the par 71, 7,209-yard Innisbrook Resort-Copperhead Course. Lander University fired a third round score of 294 to jump clubhouse leader Saint Leo for the team title with an 868 score for the tournament 54-hole event. VSU finished with a 901 score for the championship in the 17-team field.
Following Lander, there was a three-way tie for second between Saint Leo, Barry and Lincoln Memorial at 874. LMU fired a final round 1-under 291 to move up seven spots. Florida Southern finished fifth with an 879 score, while host West Florida and Arkansas Tech finished tied for sixth, each with an 880 score. Lee and Georgia Southwestern tied for eighth (883) and Nova Southeastern rounded out the top ten with an 885 score.
Queens (N.C.) finished 11
th with an 890 score, followed by Lynn at 893. Flagler finished 13
th with an even 900 score, followed by the Blazers (901) and Columbus State was 15
th with a 903 score. Tampa finished 16
th at 906 and Florida Tech rounded out the field with a 931 score.
LMU's Luke Harries fired a final round 69 to jump three spots to earn medalist honors, finishing with a 3-under 210 for the championship. Barry's A.J. Ewart carded an even par 71 to move into a tie for second with Lander's Maxime Legros and Saint Leo's Alberto Castagnara at even par 213. Lander's Hugo Lari and West Florida's Elias Haavisto finished tied for fifth each with a 215.

Wesley Hanson finished tied for 19
th to lead the team with a 220 score on rounds of 73, 73 and 74. Junior
Chase Weathers finished tied for 45
th with a 226 score after firing rounds of 76, 76 and 74. Sophomore
Ryan Pollman finished tied for 55
th with a 228 score (76, 78, 74), while junior
Davis Smith finished tied for 66
th with a 230 score on rounds of 80, 75, 75. Senior
Gage Smith finished tied for 71
st with a 232 score on rounds of 79, 76 and 77. Individually, sophomore
Jackson Cross also finished tied for 71
st with a 232 score on rounds of 78, 75 and 79.
VSU returns to home to prepare for the final tournament of the fall season next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 25-26) in Alpharetta, Ga., at Atlanta National Golf Club for the Atlanta National Invitational hosted by Limestone College.
