Smith Named GSC Volleyball Freshman of the Week for Third Time

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State volleyball freshman Jojo Smith was named Gulf South Conference Co-Freshman of the Week for her performance this past week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is the third time Smith has earned the weekly honor as she also was tabbed GSC Freshman of the Week Sept. 14 and Oct. 5. 
 
Smith had another stellar week playing in 11 sets, totaling 41 kills, recording 3.73 kills per set and a .164 hitting percentage.  A total of 24 kills were during the thrilling, five set victory against Lee, as Smith hit a .234 and tallied 8 digs, two block assists, and one service ace. 
 
The Jefferson, Ga. native recorded 16 digs, four block assists, and three service aces as VSU split conference matches with Lee and Shorter.  For the season, Smith has recorded 118 kills while hitting a .159, 63 digs, eight service aces, 12 block assists, three solo blocks, and has scored 135.0 points. 
 
Blazer volleyball is back in action this evening at 6 p.m., with a Gulf South Conference matchup at Lee in Cleveland, Tenn.  VSU then returns to the friendly confines of The Complex to host West Alabama Friday at 6 p.m.
