Farrar and Hamilton Earn Steel’s Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State women's basketball graduate transfer Kwajelin Farrar and men's basketball redshirt junior Cam Hamilton were named the Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week.  This is the second honor of the season for Farrar and first for Hamilton.
 
Farrar, a native of Grovetown, Ga., was named Gulf South Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week, after helping lead VSU to a GSC-best 7-0 record with two wins at Shorter last weekend.  Farrar led the team at 14.5 points per game, went a blistering 14 of 19 from the field (.737), pulled down 14 rebounds for a team-best average of 7.0 per game.  She had two assists and three steals, scoring 29 points in the two starts.  Farrar recorded 17 points and tied her VSU career-high with 12 rebounds last Saturday in the second win over Shorter as she went 8 of 11 from the field and tied her VSU career-high with two steals.  It was her fourth double-double in seven starts this season. 
 
The No. 8-ranked Lady Blazers head to No. 16 Lee for pair of important GSC games Friday and Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn.  Friday's game is set for a 6 p.m. tip, while Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m.  Fans can access links to live stats, audio/video streaming, ticket information and more at vstateblazers.com on the women's basketball schedule page.  The games will be broadcast on 94.3 FM WJEM with Spencer Van Horn having the call of the games and online at foxsportsvaldosta.com. 
 
Hamilton, a Charlotte, N.C., native, recorded a career-high 29 points in the Blazers' 95-83 win over West Florida on Tuesday.  Hamilton went a blistering 10 of 15 from the field and drained eight of 11 from beyond the arc – all for career-highs.  Over the last three games, Hamilton has led the team in scoring at 21.3 points per game, while going 21 of 38 from the field (.553) and a blistering 16 of 27 from deep (.593).  He has led the team in steals with eight during the past three contests. 
 
The No. 5-ranked Blazers are 6-0 and host Lee (2-1) on Friday and Saturday at The Complex.  Friday's game is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip.  Just like the women's games, information for the men's games can be found on the men's basketball schedule page at vstateblazers.com.  The men's games will be broadcast on 92.1 WDDQ FM with Mike Chason having the call and online at talk921.com.
