VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team kicked off the 2020 season with 4-1 win over Georgia College Friday afternoon. VSU won the doubles point and clinched three of the four singles matches which finished for the win.
The match opened with senior Estee Widdershove and sophomore Eval Rivoal winning at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, while sophomore
Rachel Chan-Yaneff and freshman Racheelle Starreveld won at No. 3 doubles 6-2 for the 1-0 lead in the team scoring.
Chan-Yaneff won at No. 6 singles, blanking Emily Pope, 6-0, 6-0, for a 2-0 lead, while freshman
Julia Saving won at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-1, over Irina Berklich for a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats got on the board as Kim Yatribi downed Widdershoven at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2. The Lady Blazers sealed the deal as Starreveld won in her first match as a Blazer at No. 5, 6-4, 7-6 over Tyla Carter.
VSU continues at home tomorrow with Georgia Gwinnett at 9 a.m., then will face No. 5 Nova Southeastern on Sunday at 2 p.m., and close the homestand with Shorter on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
