The Lady Blazers are 17-9 overall and 9-9 in Gulf South Conference play and a strong finish with two wins would go a long way in clinching a postseason berth, depending on how the rest of the league finishes.  VSU currently is tied for seventh with West Georgia, who the Lady Blazers split with during the year.  Mississippi College, who swept VSU is a half game back at 9-10 and finishes at West Alabama.  Christian Brothers sits just ahead of VSU with a 10-9 record and finishes hosting Union. VSU defeated CBU in its only meeting of the season.  The playoff picture will become much clearer following the games Thursday.

VSU is coming off a 1-1 weekend where it posted a quality win over Montevallo on Thursday to split the season series with the Falcons (97-87), but struggled on Senior Day in a 76-67 loss to West Alabama.  The Lady Blazers have gone 1-3 in their last four games after winning four of five previously.  The 97 points scored by VSU last Thursday was a season-high, while junior Kayla Bonilla went over 1,000 career points (27th player in program history) in the game in just three seasons for the red and black.  VSU also went 28 of 32 from the charity stripe in the game for a season-high from the line.  Struggles on the boards and points off turnovers proved costly in the loss to West Alabama on Senior Day.  UWA held a 43-35 lead in rebounding, including 36-28 on the defensive end, while the Tigers converted ten miscues by the Lady Blazers into a 15-4 lead in points off turnovers.

Bonilla leads the team averaging 17.8 points per game for fourth in the league and 58th nationally.  She is 141 of 336 from the field (.420), 37 of 126 from beyond the arc and 108 of 135 (.800) from the line for fifth in the league in free throw percentage and fourth in free throws made.  She is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game for second on the team and has 87 assists and 49 steals on the year.  Senior Cheray Saunders is second in scoring at 15.3 points per game and is the only Lady Blazer to play and start all 26 games.  She leads the team in field goals made (145) on 145 of 308 from the field for a .471 average.  She has buried 12 triples and is 95 of 140 from the line.  Saunders leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game with 55 assists and a team-high 53 steals. Junior Delaney Bernard leads the team from beyond the arc with 49 triples, while senior Nari Garner has knocked down 46 treys for the season and is third in scoring at 9.7 points per game.

As a team, VSU is shooting .425 from the field on 662 of 1558 for fourth in the league. The Lady Blazers lead the league in free throws made with 379 for 51st nationally and are second in the league in free throws attempted (527) for 69th nationally.  VSU is fourth in the league in scoring margin, averaging 72.8 points per game and allowing 67.3 for a margin of 5.4.  The Lady Blazers are third in the league in 3-point field goal percentage at a .340 clip on 189 of 556.

Thursday's game marks Senior Night for West Florida as the Argos are 7-20 and 3-16 in league play this season.  UWF will not qualify for the conference tournament, but are led by Danielle Norquest at 14.7 points per game.  She is 149 of 388 from the field (.384), while draining 25 treys for third on the team and is a team-best 74 of 119 (.622) from the line.  She is averaging a team-high 12.7 rebounds per game for fifth nationally and second in the GSC.  Her 343 total rebounds lead the league and is fourth nationally.  Norquest is first in the GSC and fourth nationally in double-doubles with 21, while she is second in the conference and 14th nationally in defensive rebounds (8.2) and tenth nationally in offensive rebounds at 4.5 per game.  Rachel McCree is second in scoring at 9.6 points per game as she leads the team with 54 treys on the year.

In the previous meeting with UWF, the Lady Blazers posted a 60-59 win on Jan. 2, as VSU held off a furious, 14-5, fourth quarter run by the Argos for the win.  UWF battled back to tie the game from a 10-point deficit with just over a minute left in the frame.  Bonilla had a team-high 22 points as VSU never trailed in the game.  Norquest missed a shot with three seconds left as UWF got the offensive rebound but was unable to get another shot off before time expired.

VSU leads the all-time series with UWF 19-13 and has won four of seven.  The Lady Blazers are 6-8 all-time in Pensacola, but haven't won there since a 62-59 win on Jan. 19, 2013, losing their last six.

AUM is 5-13 in league play and 12-14 overall as the Warhawks will play at West Georgia on Thursday, before hosting VSU on Saturday for Senior Day.  The Warhawks also cannot qualify for the conference tournament.  Leading the way for AUM this season is Victoria Morales who is averaging 13.8 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game.  She is 136 of 287 from the field (.474) and is second on the team in made 3's with 36.  She also is second in free throw shooting at 38 of 50 for a .760 clip.  Jordan Brewster is second in scoring at 12.3 points per game as she is 107 of 290 from the floor.  Brewster is 91 of 247 from beyond the arc to lead the team.  Catlin Carter also is averaging 12.3 points per game on 102 of 253 from the field and 30 of 90 from range.  She leads the team from the line at 86 of 114 (.754).

The Lady Blazers lead the all-time series with AUM 5-0, including the 77-51 win on Jan. 25, 2020, in Valdosta.  VSU has won both meetings in Montgomery, with a 55-49 win in 2019 and a 62-50 win in 2018.  The 77 points scored by the Lady Blazers in the last meeting was the most in the series for VSU, while defensively VSU hasn't allowed over 51 points in a game in the series. The Lady Blazers have outscored AUM an average of 63.0 to 48.6 (315-243) in the previous meetings.
