VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 25 Valdosta State softball team returns to the road this weekend as it travels to Auburn Montgomery for a three-game series in Gulf South Conference play. The Blazers and Warhawks are set for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, followed by a single game set for first pitch at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
The Blazers have won seven-straight games and are 8-3 overall and 3-0 in GSC play after sweeping Shorter last weekend in the 2020 home-opening series. AUM is 7-2 overall and 2-1 in GSC play, after going 2-1 against Christian Brothers last weekend.

VSU was led by senior
Logan Hill and sophomore
Kiley Robb offensively against Shorter as Hill went 5 of 7 from the dish for a .714 average, with a team-high six runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and four RBI. Robb was 7 of 10 from the plate with five runs scored, one double, three home runs and a team-high eight RBI. Robb earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors for her efforts, marking the third-straight week VSU has had a GSC Player of the Week honoree. Senior
Jordenne Gaten earned Player of the Week following the first week of the season and Hill earned the honor last week.
As a team, VSU hit .382 on 26 of 68, while scoring 24 runs with eight doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBI. The team slugged .809 and reached base at a .494. clip, with 13 walks and three hit batsmen. VSU had a .973 fielding percentage with two errors.
In the circle, sophomore
Samantha Richards went 2-0 in two relief appearances for 5.1 innings, allowing two hits, walked one and fanned ten. Junior
Morgan Cushman went 1-0 with a complete game shutout in six innings, allowing two hits, walked three and fanned four.
AUM is led this season by Jaycie Walker at a .545 clip on 12 of 22. She has scored eight runs with two doubles, one triple, one home run and 12 RBI. Kendall Tucker is hitting .526 with 10 hits in 19 at bats, while scoring six times with one double, one triple, a team-high three home runs and a team-best 15 RBI. She is slugging a team-high 1.158 for the year. Molly Cobb is third in average at .500 on 8 of 16 from the dish.
In all, seven Warhawks are hitting over .300 for the season as the team is at a .350 clip on 77 of 220. AUM has scored 67 runs with 12 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 63 RBI for a .532 slugging percentage. AUM has drawn 28 walks with nine hit batsmen for a .438 on-base percentage and has gone 34 of 37 in stolen bases.
Defensively, Alanna Goble is 3-1 with a 0.30 ERA in five starts and a team-high 23 innings. She has allowed seven hits, two runs – one earned, walked seven and fanned 34 as teams are hitting .097 against her. Bailie Barns is 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA in ten innings, while Chanel Newcomer is 2-1 on the year in 13 innings. As a staff, AU boasts a 1.08 ERA in 53 innings, allowing 25 hits, nine runs – eight earned, walked 12 and fanned 64 as teams are hitting .140 against it.
VSU leads the all-time series with AUM at 4-3. The Warhawks won two of three in Valdosta last season, while VSU swept the season-series in 2018 in Montgomery. The teams played one game in Gulf Shores, Ala., in 2017.
For the season, Hill leads the team hitting .464 on 13 of 28 with a team-high 12 runs scored, four doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI. She is slugging 1.143 with eight walks and one hit batsmen for a .595 on-base percentage. Robb is second on the team in average at .387 on 12 of 31 from the dish with 11 runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and ten RBI. Junior
Nicole Pennington is third in average at .371 with 13 hits, nine runs scored, one double, four home runs and a team-high 11 RBI.
As a team, the Blazers are hitting .266 on 71 of 274, while scoring 61 runs with 13 doubles, 17 home runs and 55 RBI. The team is slugging .500 on the year, along with 36 walks, six hit batsmen and an on-base percentage of .361. VSU is 16 of 19 in stolen bases and has seven errors for a .976 fielding percentage.

Shayne O'Connell each have two wins, while Cushman leads the team in innings pitched with 21. She is second in strikeouts with 21, while. Richards leads the team with 23 strikeouts. The Blazers have a 1.53 ERA for the season in 73 innings, allowing 55 hits, 25 runs – 16 earned, walked 26 and fanned 75 as teams are hitting .212 against it.
Following the series, VSU returns home to host Albany State in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park. The series against ASU begins a stretch of 11-straight home games through Mar. 11.
