THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team impressed in its Gulf South conference opener on Friday night. The Blazers knocked off the Lee Flames, three sets to none, with a .260 hitting percentage.

First Set:
- VSU and Lee battled back and forth, until the Blazers took a 14-9 lead.
- Lee attempted to close the gap, but five errors allowed for the Blazers to hold on for the 25-19 win.
- The Blazers had a match high .393 hitting percentage and 14 kills.

Second Set:
- VSU nearly played a flawless set with only one error, taking a quick 10-5 lead.
- Lee battled back, but eight errors doomed the Flames, 25-21.
- VSU once again has an impressive hitting percentage of .316 and also added 13 kills.

Third Set:
- Lee jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.
- VSU battled back, using a 6-2 run to tie the set at six points apiece.
- The Blazers used another 6-2 run , to take a 15-11 lead.
- After a late rally from Lee, Â VSU overcame a .164 hitting percentage to take the set and the match.

Inside the Numbers:
- VSU played a very disciplined match with only seven errors.
- While both teams finished with 40 kills, the Blazers had the higher hitting percentage with .260 compared to the Flames .118.
- Sophomore Jessie Mooney impressed with 17 digs, eight kills and three aces.
- Junior Tammy Reyes Perez continued to here fantastic play with 13 digs, 22 assists and three blocks.
- Junior Rebecca Sills provided a solid performance for VSU with 19 digs and eight assists.
