VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Austin Peay, out of the Ohio Valley Conference of Division I, on Thursday at the VSU Tennis Courts.
The Governors (10-0) took the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the top spot as Estee Widdershoven and
Eva Rivoal lost to Lidia Yanes Garcia and Claudia Yanes Garcia. At No. 2 doubles, APU's Tatiana Lopez and Honoka Nakanishi downed
Daniella Barta and Here Bork Brynjarsdottir, 6-2.
Freshman Raches Chan-Yaneff lost at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0 for a 2-0 lead for APU and the Governors took a 3-0 lead at No. 4 where Fabienne Schmidt downed Rivoal, 6-1, 6-3. Barta lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 to L. Yanes Garcia to clinch the match.
VSU (0-8) returns to action Mar. 15 as it turns its attention to Gulf South Conference play, opening the league at Shorter on Mar. 15, at Alabama Huntsville on Mar. 16 and at Lee on Mar. 17. VSU then returns home to host three-straight matches, beginning Mar. 26 with Montevallo at 2 p.m.
