CLINTON, Miss. – The No. 5 Valdosta State softball team was swept for the first time this season with an 8-0 loss and a 2-1 loss in ten innings at Mississippi College on Sunday. VSU fell to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in Gulf South Conference play, while Mississippi College improved to 17-6 and 5-3 in league play.
MC scored one run in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth for the run-rule win in the opener as VSU tallied just three hits in the game, while leaving three stranded. It was the first time VSU had been run-ruled this season.
Senior
Kasie Johnson (7-2) took the loss, going five innings, allowing ten hits, six runs – five earned, walked one and fanned five.
In the nightcap, VSU had plenty of chances to score, but was unable to do until the tenth inning with a runner at second on the international tiebreaker. Junior

Taylor Strickland fouled out to right for a sacrifice fly, plating Biddle.
In the bottom of the inning, MC had the equalizing run placed at second base. VSU sophomore hurler
Caylie Van Auken walked her first batter of the game and sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Kristen Qualls doubled home both runs for the walk-off win.
Van Auken took the loss (6-2) going a season-high 9.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs – one earned, walked one and fanned 10.
VSU will look to get a win in the finale Monday at 1 p.m. ET. The game is back at the MC Softball Field.
