Lady Blazers Down Auburn Montgomery on Senior Night, 64-50

VALDOSTA, Ga. –  The Valdosta State women's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away from visiting Auburn Montgomery Thursday evening on Senior Night, 64-50.  VSU outscored AUM 17-7 in the third quarter en route to the victory.
 
The Lady Blazers (19-9, 13-7 GSC) clinched the No. 5-seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament and will travel to No. 4-seed Delta State for a Tuesday game at 6:30 p.m. ET.  Spencer Van Horn will have the call of the game on 92.1 WDDQ.  Check back with vstateblazers.com on the women's basketball schedule page for links to live stats, ticket information, GSC Tournament information and more.  
 
Prior to Thursday's game, VSU honored six Lady Blazers playing in their final regular season home game as the 2018-19 senior class included; Maddy Corazza, Sonya Franklin, Kendra Green, Shon Kitchens, Jazmyn McIntosh and Crystal Townsend
 
VSU was led by 17 points from Franklin as she was 8 of 10 from the field with a free throw, three assists and four steals.  Green added 10 points off the bench for the Lady Blazers.
 
The team shot 26 of 55 from the field for 47.3 percent, while going 2 of 12 from beyond the arc and 10 of 18 from the line.  VSU tallied 31 rebounds in the game and had just nine turnovers in the contest.  
 
AUM (5-23, 4-16 GSC) shot 18 of 40 from the field for 45 percent, while going 5 of 17 from beyond the arc and 9 of 13 from the line.  The Warhawks had 26 rebounds, but committed 21 turnovers leading to VSU holding a 20-7 lead in points off turnovers.  The Lady Blazers also dominated inside to the tune of 44-8 in points in the paint.  
 
The Lady Blazers trailed early in the first quarter, but rallied for a 15-9 lead through one frame. VSU stretch a 17-13 lead into a 23-13 ledger in the second quarter and settled for a 27-20 lead at intermission. 
 
The Warhawks cut the deficit to four at 29-25 early in the third quarter, but VSU quickly pushed the lead to 37-25 with an 8-0 run capped on a free throw from Kitchens.  Junior Nari Garner scored inside for a 44-27 lead at the end of three quarters.  
 
Franklin scored on a fast break layup for a 60-40 score with two minutes and change left, prior to a rally from the Warhawks as they cut the deficit to 14 capped with a triple from Jordan Brewster in the closing seconds for a 64-50 final margin.
