COLUMBUS, Ga. – In a quick turnaround after the first home match of the season on Saturday, the Valdosta State women's tennis team traveled to No. 3 Columbus State on Sunday, falling 6-1 to the Cougars. VSU fell to 0-3 on the year, while Columbus State improved to 2-1.
CSU won the doubles point, winning all three matches. At No. 3, freshman
Birte Langestein and sophomore Amelia Cornwell dropped a 6-4 decision to Clara Audap and Luise Sachs, for the best finish for the Blazers in doubles.
In singles, senior
Daniella Barta won by opponent retirement in the second set at No. 2 as No. 22-ranked Beatriz Lopez retired after Barta won the first set 6-1. Beatriz was up 4-1 in the second set before she retired. Each of the other five matches, CSU won in straight-sets.
VSU returns to action Saturday as it hosts Rollins at 1 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Courts and then travels to Orlando for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday with No. 1-ranked Barry. Check back with vstateblazers.com for recaps and stats of the matches next weekend.
