VSU started quick in the second quarter, as the lead grew to as much as 16 points. The Cougars were able cut into the deficit, as the Lady Blazers took a 34-26 lead into the break.

Following halftime, the Lady Blazers worked again to stretch the lead. Back-to-back baskets from Saunders made it a 13-point game. Both teams would continue to trade scores, as the quarter continued. CSU would cut the Lady Blazers lead to single digits. However, with just seconds remaining in the quarter, Saunders converted on a three-pointer to give VSU a 51-42 lead.

The final period saw both teams battle. The Lady Blazers stretched the lead to 11 points, but a pesky Cougars squad hung around as the game reached its later parts.
