THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team dropped a tough match on Friday night, 3-1, against a quality opponent in Montevallo.
 
First Set:

• Both teams struggled in hitting percentage, but VSU prevailed.
• The Blazers overcame eight errors to defeat the Falcons in the first set.
• VSU tallied eight kills in the first set.

 
Second Set:

• Montevallo hit an outstanding .441 in the second set.
• Five errors hurt the Blazers, as the Falcons started to pull away.
• UM finished off the Blazers in the second set, holding off a late VSU rally.

 
Third Set:

• VSU jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead.
• UM used a 8-2 run to take a 11-10 lead.
• Both teams used runs, before the Falcons pulled away to take the third set, 28-26

Fourth Set:

• The Blazers used another quick start to take the momentum early in the fourth set.
• UM rallied multiple times, and four errors hurt the Blazers.
• UM finished off VSU with .256 hitting percentage.

 
Inside the Numbers:

• The Blazers finished with 46 kills and a .126 hitting percentage
• Senior Dariah Powell (19 kills and ten digs) and sophomore Jessie Mooney ( 10 kills and 11 digs) tallied double-doubles.
• Junior Rebecca Sills totaled 23 digs and three assists.
• Junior Tammy Reyes Perez totaled 25 assists and one ace.
