THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team dropped its first contest of the weekend, on Friday night, losing to Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers, in three sets.
First Set:
- CBU used a .292 hitting percentage and 11 kills to pull away with the first set.
- The Buccaneers used a 7-0 run to defeat VSU in the first set.
- VSU hit .125 in the first set, dooming the Blazers.
Second Set:
- The Blazers struggled in the second set but were able to string multiple runs together to keep it close.
- Eight errors hurt the Blazers, as CBU started to pull away.
- CBU finished off the Choctaws in the second set even with a .176 hitting percentage.
Third Set:
- VSU jumped out to a quick 9-5 lead.
- VSU used a 9-3 run to take a 14-12 lead.
- Both teams used runs, before the Buccaneers pulled away to take the third set, 25-19
Inside the Numbers:
- The Blazers finished with 27 kills and a .098 hitting percentage
- Senior Kayla Widera tallied seven kills and two blocks.
- Senior Dariah Powell totaled six kills, two blocks and seven digs.
- Junior Tammy Reyes Perez totaled 22 assists and three aces.
